Durres
Durres
is the main port in Albania. Situated close to the capital it is also
the main weekend seaside resort for Tiranians, and lies approx 30 km
from the airport.
After the opening of the country Durres with its extensive beaches on
the Adriatic Sea was the first town to develop into a kind of mass holiday
resort. It offers at present some luxury hotels and countless accomodation
at lower levels. Though parts of it are „overdeveloped“
in a not very beneficial way there are still vast unspoilt parts in
its surroundings.
The historic town centre in Italian style, an amphitheatre and the castle
of the former Albanian king Zog offer a cultural counterpart to its
natural resources.
