Saranda
Situated
just opposite the Greek island of Corfu on the mainland, Saranda has
quickly developed into a touristic port town. It is near the famous
archeological site and natural reserve of Butrint. From the village
Ksamili it is possible to reach a number of small private beaches on
little islands or sandy bays accessible only by boat.
Across an impressive but easy mountain pass the road leads on to the
museum city of Gjirokaster and the main road to Greece. There are also
frequent ferry connections to Corfu. Buthrotum
(Albanian: Butrint or Butrinti) is an ancient city and an archeological
site in Albania, close to the Greek border. Inhabited since prehistoric
times, Butrint has been the site of an Epirot city, a Roman colony and
a bishopric.
